Pound for pound the BEST ab exercise!
You hear people make *this* claim a lot when it comes to training the Ol' abbies. Some say crunches, planks and other "ab gadgets" are the best.
Well
... first let's talk about the function of the abs. Your abs should be able to flex your spine both anteriorly and laterally but... in my honest opinion the true definition of ab strength is the ability to resist anterior (think of bending forward) and lateral (side to side) spinal flexion.
And the best place to start is with "The Hollow Rock".
The "Hollow Position" in my experience is the best. Pound-for-pound ab exercise on the planet. It'll manifest itself in most of your strength training exercises like:
- Push-ups
- Pull-ups
- Deadlifts
- Kettlebell swings, cleans, presses and snatches
Pavel has famously quipped
"... to get stronger, train your grip and your abs."
The hollow position addresses both of these. They are also the starting point to building your first pull-ups. Or... if you're already knocking out pull-ups. This drill will take them to the next level.
