The Front Squat

A Stronger Posture for BJJ

I've been talking about posture and positioning to help you get in better positions to execute stronger submissions.

Today we're going to flip that same concept only, we will be using it for defense.

Playing a counter attack style of Jiu-Jitsu, or more of a defensive style (like Eduardo Telles) of Jiu-Jitsu, you must follow the same principles.

  • Stronger Posture.
  • Stronger Positioning.
  • Stronger escapes.

Enter The Kettlebell Front Squat

The front squat (FSQ) is a unique kettlebell exercise in the way it loads the anterior (front side) structure of the body.

This exercise is not only brutal on the abs, but it will build a SOLID and STRONG posture.

Both of which are crucial for defense in Jiu-Jitsu.

This exercise is self-correcting.

The moment you're not strong enough (either in the abs or upper back) to execute the FSQ the bells will literally fall off your chest (known as the "Rack Position").
