The Same but Different

In the world of fitness there are SO many shinny objects in the form of new gadgets and "sport specific" training for Jiu-Jitsu.


I'm sure you've also heard of this GREAT marketing concept called "Muscle Confusion".

While you do want to change things up from time to time, be cautious not to go too far down the rabbit whole.


Within the StrongFirst® community we have a concept called "Specialized Variety". This is simply performing the same exercise only different.


Example:

  • Strict pull-up
  • Close-grip pull-up
  • Chin-up
  • check
    Neutral grip pull-up, etc...
In today's lesson we will be doing just that for the kettlebell swing.

Enter The Towel Swing

The towel swing works two fold for Jiu-Jitsu:

1. It's a great drill to improve grip strength that is VERY similar to gripping the kimono.

2. [Most importantly] It's self-correcting. The towel swing will let you know immediately what you're doing wrong in the swing.
