The Push Press

The Untold-Secret to a powerful snatch

So one day I was practicing the push press and jerk as I putting together the (soon to be released) The Press Continuum! kourse and I had an epiphany.

I noticed the push press and snatch pretty much have the same pattern and the following 3 elements:

  • A powerful hip drive.
  • A quick over-head punch to lockout.
  • A vertical trajectory (i.e., a tamed arc).

I experimented with teaching the snatch to my students (using the same push press lesson you're about to learn today) using the push press to really hammer home the hip drive and quick over-head punch.

I never even had to bring up "taming the arc" or even "the high pull."

And the learning curve was almost non-existent.

Speaking of the high pull, in my honest opinion (and experience)  it's the most confusing drill to use for beginners when teaching the snatch.

In fact...

When I use the high pull, I don't teach it in the "traditional" way it's been taught.  It just never made sense to me so, I made a modification which I call "The SAH High Pull" (you'll soon learn it in the next module).

I have the high pull in this course so you can have another tool in your tool box.  Because not every drill will work with everyone.

Go ahead and dive in and I'll see you in the next lesson.
