The Deadlift

The most psychological exercise on the planet...

The deadlift is something else.

From the outside looking in, it looks as simple as picking something up and putting it down

... there is so much more to it.

It's one of the most technical lifts there is and the more weight you lift the more technical the lift is.

While today we're covering the "fundamentals of the deadlift" for the kettlebell swing, I'd like to share a few insights of my experience with the barbell deadlift.

I've never seen any lift be so psychologically demanding on a person as I have with the deadlift.

I've seen people literally freakout and freeze up when it comes to taking a max
attempt--myself included.

You know why?

Because the deadlift is the only lift that can literally cripple you for life but at the same time it's the safest lift you can (and should) do.

That's the beauty of the deadlift, it's self correcting, you'll know when you're doing it wrong and NO SPOTTER IS REQUIRED--compared to squatting and pressing.

If the lift goes wrong all you need to do is drop the weight.

With that said, the best way to correct any swing is to assess the deadlift.

11 times out of 10 (yes you read correctly) if a student of mine is having issues with their swing--I can always back them up to their deadlift and find the issue.

Dial in the deadlift and you'll dial in your swing.
